SPORT-TEST'S PROPRIETARY BENCHMARK
ON-ICE TESTING & DATA ANALYZES

The world's top NHL draft players from 2013-2015, such as MacKinnon, Ekblad, and Connor McDavid, have taken the standardized On-Ice Test and formed the basis of our On-Ice Testing Benchmark.

More than 4,000 players were tested in Europe and Russia under the Sports-Tests method, and more than 60,000 test data were evaluated, including from twenty-seven European drafted NHL players. We know what test results it takes to become a top hockey player.

Our methodology shows the player how talented he is and where his strengths and weaknesses lie to set new goals. "If you don't know where you stand, you can't set yourself a goal."

"BENCHMARK" ON-ICE TESTING - «THE BEST PLAYERS IN
THE TEST ARE ALSO THE BEST PLAYERS IN THE GAME! »

The standardized on-ice test has been carried out periodically since 2010 in the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) and the OHL, WHL and QMJHL. Due to transparency, various NHL organizations now use the same on-ice test in the development camps. (read more......)

SISM HOCKEY HAS ALSO TESTED FOREIGN TEAMS ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS

The most well-known teams include the Russian U-16 national team, the KHL team from Barys Astana from Kazakhstan, and their 350 junior players from the Barys Hockey Academy. SISM testing highlights include testing with all junior teams from Frölunda Gothenburg, Sweden. Frölunda is the top club in Europe for developing young ice hockey players. In 2019, SISM tested the two Swedish champion teams, U-16 and U-18, as well as the U-20 team. In some cases, unbelievably good results have been achieved, and some players have also been drafted in the NHL drafts in the first or second round in recent years.

THE SPORT-TESTS «TESTING-BENCHMARK»

This worldwide unique comparison index draws on the standardized on-ice testing results from 2013-2015, which were achieved by players who have achieved superstar status in the NHL today, such as MacKinnon, Ekblad, Connor McDavid and many more.

The on-ice tests were conducted prior to the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Games and the age of the players varied between 17 and 18 years. Sport-Tests only took the top result per discipline from the CHL/NHL-Testings 2013 - 2015 and these results reflect the comparative index unchanged.

It's not surprising that to date, Connor McDavid is swinging high in our testing index. As an 18-year-old, Connor achieved a testing index of 96.36%.

TESTED FOREIGN TEAMS ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS

Thanks to our tests with the Russian U16 national team (14-15-year-olds) and the tests carried out with the juniors from Frölunda, which provided two Swedish champion teams (U16 and U18) as well as the U20 team, we received further high-quality test data, which showed us what considerable talents can deliver in terms of test data (14-18-year-olds). Of our test participants in Sochi 2017 with the Russian national team, eight players made it into the NHL draft, and eleven Swedish players we tested in 2019 with Frölunda. Three players were first-round draft picks in the 2020 and 2021 NHL draft. Lucas Raymond 1#4 has already established himself excellently in the NHL. At just 21 years old, he is in his second NHL year with the Detroit Red Wings and has already played over 150 NHL games and surpassed the 100-scorer point mark.

From the on-ice testing in Sochi, we noticed a player who delivered an incredibly strong result as a 14-year-old. His name: Marat Khusnutdinov, he now plays for SKA St. Petersburg (KHL). The now 20-year-old made his SKA debut at 18 and played for the Russian national team in the same year. At 20, Marat is already playing the 3rd season in the KHL, the second-best league in the world. This season he has scored 41 points in 61 games.

Our data analysis clearly shows that we can identify talented players from a young age and know what it takes to become a top player from an early age.

HOW IS THE SPORT-TESTS TESTING INDEX CALCULATED?

The on-ice test includes ten on-ice disciplines, four sprints, and six technical tests. Each player's test result is compared to the record times achieved from the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Testing 2013-2015 and shown as a percentage.

The testing index is the average value of all ten individual disciplines. As mentioned earlier, Connor McDavid, at 18 years of each, scored 96.36%, representing our target for an 18-year-old. Each player's goal should be to aim for the target based on the player’s age.

TEST EVALUATION BY SPORT TESTING INC.

Every player who takes part in the test will receive an activation email to use their free account and query their password-protected test data before the test. This allows him to compare himself to players in Canada. "The locker room" shows the daily stats; the player can compare his performance with the participants in the same test. However, these statistics are only relevant in some tests since the performance of the various participants cannot be objectively compared due to the sometimes-large age difference.

For this reason, we have developed the «Benchmark Testing Special Analysis» The large amount of data from high-quality test results over nine years has created a unique proprietary product that can impressively confirm our analyses concerning talent identification and development.

The Sport-Tests Testing-Index

The goal of the Testing-Index is to provide a player a platform were he can compare himself against other players to see where he ranks against the best even with players from North America. The results for each testing protocol are compared with the top testing results achieved during the “BMO CHL/NHL Top 40 Prospect Combines” 2013-2016. Top rookies like Nathan MacKinnon, Aaron Ekblad and Connor McDavid were tested under the guidelines of Sport-Tests partner Sport Testing Inc. During the last four years 160 players were tested at the BMO Combine, from this, sixty-eight players were first round “NHL Entry Draft” picks and 36 of them played already NHL during the season of 2015-2016.

One hundred percent is the perfect score; this is every player's dream but nobody's accomplishment yet. During several combines in July 2016 in Arosa (Switzerland) more than 300 players were tested, a 19 year old player with experience in the NLA (highest League in Switzerland) and played for the U16 to U20 national team reached a score of 94.34%. This is a very good result, but still not perfect. Our Index allows players quickly and accurately identify strengths and deficiencies in his skating and technical skill compare to the best of the best in the hockey world. To dream about a career and becoming an NHL player, a score around 97% of the Testing-Index has to be achieved to even get a fair look.

Testimonials from our ambassadors

“In the old days there was no chance to do a on-ice testing to test players for speed, agility, exploinves, stick handling and reaction time, becaus the technology was not available. Sport-Tests on- and off-ice testing in my view expidites player development as testing results mercilessly reveal the skating and technical sills of a player.”
